The Ideal Science/Environmental Project

A fully functioning, properly equipped vermicomposting bin makes an excellent classroom science or environmental project.

Students Learn:

  • The importance of a well balanced eco-system to the health of its inhabitants
  • How the circle of life works within this tiny eco-system and how it relates to the larger eco-system of the earth
  • How recycling can benefit them and the whole planet reducing the amount of trash that ends up in landfills by turning it into life sustaining, nutrient rich compost and concentrated liquid plant food

Kid-Friendly Composting:

Because of its simple design The Worm Factory is easy, kid-friendly and low maintenance. Making worm composting an excellent way for kids to learn about recycling and about micro and macro environmental systems and their health. Depending on your students' grade level, different text books are also available to supplement the learning process.

Harvesting Your Super-Soil:

When your classroom bin is full or when four to six months of composting time has elapsed, you and your students will discover the rich finished soil on the bottom of the bin; on the very top you will find food, bedding and worms, all of which you should return to the bin to re-start the composting process. The nutrient-rich SUPER SOIL has been created by worm castings, and can be added to the soil of indoor plants or to outdoor gardens. The Worm Factory is specially designed to enable you to extract the super-concentrated liquid plant food. Your students can package the harvested SUPER SOIL and concentrated plant food and sell it as an additional fund-raising project.
